UPSC CAPF AC Examination 2020 - Everything You Want to Know

Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) every year conducts Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) Assistant Commandants Examinations for recruitment to the post of Assistant Commandants(Direct Entry) in 5 CAPFs that is Central Reserve Police Forces (CRPF), Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), Sashastra Sima Bal (SSB), Border Security Force (BSF) and Central Industrial Security Force (CISF). Assistant Commandant is equivalent to Deputy Supremetendent of Police (Dy SP) in state police Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) in City Police under pay scale of Rs. 56100-1,77,500 in Pay Band 3 of 7th Pay Commission. 

How to Apply

You have to go to the official website of UPSC, eere you have to click on the 'ONLINE APPLICATION FOR VARIOUS EXAMINATIONS OF UPSC' tab and then select the UPSC Assistant Commandants Examinations 2020 and follow the on screen instructions to fill the form. This is a two step process, so fill it completely otherwise your application might be rejected.

Crucial Dates for Applying

The form can be filled from 18th August 2020 to 7th September 2020(Revised due to COVID 19 pandemic).

Application Fee

Application fee for General and OBC candidates is Rs. 200, but it is relaxed for SC, ST and Female candidates.

Date of Examination

Date of Examination is also revised due to Corona virus pandemic, which was earlier scheduled to be held on 9th of August 2020, is now tentatively scheduled for 20th December 2020 in two sittings in the same day.

Vacancies

Vacancies for CAPF-2020 will be updated when Notification is released. However you can estimate the probable vacancies from previous year examination. The vacancies in CAPF AC-2020 is 209 which was distributed among the five forces as follows:-

Eligibility

Nationality

Only Indian male and female nationals can apply.

Educational

Candidates must hold a Bachelor's degree from a government recognised university before the closing date of Application.

Age Limit

Candidates should not be more than 25 years old and must not be less than 20 years old. However SC and ST candidates get 5 year relaxation in upper age limit while OBC gets 3 years relaxation and various other groups also gets relaxation to know much refer to detailed notification given below.

Physical Standard

The minimum requirements for the candidate are as follows: 

 Men  

Height - 165 cm
Weight - 50 Kg
Chest - 81 cm(unexpanded) (with 5 cm minimum expansion) 

Women  

Height - 157 cm
Weight - 46 Kg
Chest - (Not applicable) 

Moreover other  physical and medical standards like weight(maximum), Eye sight etc. should be as per mentioned in Appendix-V of the detailed notification.

Selection Process

UPSC CAPF AC Examination is a three Stage selection process as given below:-

1. Written Examination

This is a one day Examinations which comprises two papers i.e. 

Paper 1 - (General Ability and Intelligence) (250 Marks)(2 Hours)

It consists of 125 Objective type Multiple Choice Questions having total of 250 marks. However this paper also has Negative marking of 1/3 marks (of the question) for each question. Total time given for this paper is 2 Hours.

Paper 2 - (General Studies, Essay and Comprehension) (200 Marks)(3 Hours)

This paper consists of 4 Essays (can be written in English or Hindi language) each having 20 Marks totalling to 80 Marks.
Rest of the 120 Marks is distributed in Argument Writing (2), Report Writing (2), Precis writing (1), Comprehension Passage and English Grammar. But this can done in English only.

2. Physical Standard/Physical Efficiency Test and Medical Test

Candidates declared qualified in written part of the Examination called for Physical Standard/Physical Efficiency Test and Medical Test. 
In this test first of all candidates have to pass Physical Standards only those candidates who clear it are put to PET test as given below.

Male

(a) 100 Meters race In 16 seconds.
(b) 800 Meters race In 3 minutes 45 second.
(C) Long Jump of 3.5 meters(3 chances).
(D) Shot Put (7.26 Kgs) of 4.5 meters.

Females

(a) 100 Meters race In 18 seconds.
(b) 800 Meters race In 4 minutes 45 second.
(C) Long Jump of 3 meters (3 chances).
(D) Shot Put is not for females.

Those who qualify PST and PET undergo Detailed Medical Examination at PET centre.

3. Interview

Those candidates who qualify Written Examination and PST/PET and Medical Test are called for Interview by a  UPSC Board.  Only those candidates who qualify all parts of the selection process are recommended for recruitment to the post.
